Governor's Harbour Fire Rescue

Our Mission

At Governor’s Harbour Fire Rescue (GHFR), our mission is to protect lives, property, and the well-being of the community we serve, including its residents and visitors. Since our inception, we have been a trusted first responder, called to numerous fires, car accidents, and other emergencies. Our team has proudly responded to critical situations across the island, from North to South, ensuring safety and peace of mind for all.
With a commitment to excellence and preparedness, GHFR continues to be a cornerstone of safety and support, dedicated to serving the island with courage, compassion, and professionalism.

We Need Your Help

This project will need to be 100% self-funded without government funding.
To be successful, we will need significant financial support from individuals and large corporations with interests in Eleuthera.

OUR ‘BIG DOG LEON’ FIRETRUCK NEEDS A GOOD HOME!

AND OUR BEAUTIFUL COMMUNITY OF GOVERNOR’S HARBOUR NEEDS A HURRICANE AND EMERGENCY SHELTER

Building a Safer Future for Governor’s Harbour

Governor’s Harbour Fire Rescue (GHFR) is leading an innovative project to establish a dedicated fire station and hurricane shelter, designed to meet the critical needs of our community. This facility will serve as a blueprint for sustainable and resilient community buildings across The Bahamas, providing the first hurricane-rated shelter on Eleuthera for up to 120 individuals. Equipped with overnight accommodations, modern AV facilities, a full kitchen, and bathroom amenities, the station will double as a vital community center, supporting both emergency operations and local gatherings.

GOAL

To raise funds for the construction and maintenance of the GHFR station and emergency hurricane shelter on the 0.43 acres already gifted to us by a local developer.

FUNDING NEEDED

Approximately $650K is required for the construction of the fire station, hurricane shelter, water cistern, and electric systems.

TIMEFRAME

Objective: To secure funding beginning immediately to have the project build within 24 months.

LOCATION

Opposite the French Leave Resort, behind their maintenance lot on the left side of the road going East.

Our Reach

The men and women of GHFR swiftly integrated into our community, showcasing the invaluable nature of their volunteer commitment. Already, they have had to demonstrate their essential role to assist and rescue friends, neighbors, families, expats, and tourists during emergencies, car accidents, and fires.

International Collaboration And Support

Our ongoing collaboration with Firefighters Without Borders (FWB) from Canada has been vital in building and expanding our capabilities. FWB continues to provide essential firefighting equipment and expert training, and their support has evolved to include other first responders across the island of Eleuthera. Their visits and ongoing guidance have not only strengthened our firefighting team but also fostered collaboration and preparedness among emergency personnel island-wide.
