About Us

A Community Initiative Founded In February 2021

Governor’s Harbour Fire Rescue (GHFR) originated from a pivotal meeting between Ricardo Pinder, the previous and current Fire Chief of Governor’s Harbour, Bob Colman, a prominent local businessman and philanthropist, and Martin Weber, a concerned second homeowner and long-time volunteer firefighter.

Recognizing the pressing need for a dedicated volunteer Fire Service to safeguard the community of Governor’s Harbour, swift action was taken. Soon a Bahamian Non-Profit Company was established with a stellar local board, the recruitment of both former and new volunteer firefighters created a strong crew, and the selection of an effective fundraising committee pursued the purchase of necessary equipment.

Thanks to the overwhelming support from locals, expats, and tourists, we proudly acquired our inaugural firetruck, affectionately named "Big Dog Leon," as a tribute to the family of our most generous donor
